Trifexis for Dogs
Your canine companion is a valuable member of your family, and you simply cannot allow your dog to be stressed out due to parasites that clings to your pet’s body. Parasites can be found in every direction that your dog leads, may it be your yard or inside your house. They are a great threat to the health of your precious pooch, which is why you need to make sure that you give Trifexis to your dog in order to provide protection to your furry animal.
TRIFEXIS
Trifexis (spinosad + milbemycin oxime) is a 3-in-1 parasite protection medication that is created for dogs. It is a chewable tablet that is conveniently flavored with beef for better taste, and it is given to dogs only one time every month. Trifexis is a very efficient dog protection tablet that kills fleas and inhibits infestations. It can also prevent your dog from having a heartworm disease. Trifexis is also capable of treating and controlling the spread of adult hookworm, whipworm, and roundworm infections in dogs.
TRIFEXIS FOR DOGS
Trifexis is intended for the use of puppies and dogs that are 8 weeks old or above that have a minimum body weight of 5 pounds. It is recommended that Trifexis is administered to your dog for the whole year, but if for some reason you cannot do this, then you must give Trifexis chewable tablet to your dog for at least months after your furry friend was exposed to mosquitoes. The two active ingredients of Trifexis, which are spinosad and milbemycin, are highly effective in their functionality. This chewable tablet is made easier to be taken by dogs through the integration of the artificial beef flavor, which is created from hydrolyzed soy and pork-based proteins.
HOW DOES TRIFEXIS WORK?
Trifexis is known to kill fleas rapidly, and this chewable tablet medication starts killing unwanted fleas on your pet’s body after 30 minutes of absorption with a full 100% efficiency and complete wipe out of fleas within 4 hours of administration. And the good thing is Trifexis does not stop with 100% killing of fleas. This dog medication lingers to eradicate fleas in your dog for one month after the treatment was done. This guarantees that re-infestation of fleas will not happen again in your dog, and the continued use of this treatment will ensure that your dog will not get infected with fleas again.
If your dog has flea allergy dermatitis, you would be happy to know that Trifexis is also effective in the improvement of papules, erythema, alopecia, scaling, pruritus (itching), and dermatitis/pyodermatitis, as a direct effect in the killing of fleas.
TRIFEXIS DOG DOSAGE
Trifexis is manufactured in five strengths, and each chewable tablet is formulated to give your pooch the smallest dosage of spinosad 13.5 mg/lb. or 30 mg/kg, and milbemycin oxime 0.2 mg/lb. or 0.5 mg/kg according to your dog’s body weight.
- 5-10 lbs. : 140 mg/2.3 mg
- 10.1-20 lbs. : 270 mg/4.5 mg
- 20.1-40 lbs. : 560 mg/9.3 mg
- 40.1-60 lbs. : 810 mg/13.5 mg

If your dog weighs beyond 120 pounds, then you need to be very careful in giving your pet the correct combination of the Trifexis chewable tablets.
IS TRIFEXIS SAFE FOR DOGS?
Yes, Trifexis is definitely safe for the administration of dogs. This medication is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), and can only be obtained through the prescription of your dog’s vet. But if your dog is breeding, or have other medical issues, you must let your dog’s vet know about it to make sure that your dog’s medical history is taken into consideration when the prescription is written.
Spinosad is an active ingredient of Trifexis, and it safe for the consumption of you dog because it exhibits selective toxicity to the nervous system of the fleas, but is tested to have zero to low harmfulness to nontarget organisms and mammals.
NORMAL ADVERSE REACTIONS IN DOGS TAKING TRIFEXIS
Like all other medications in the market, Trifexis also has adverse reactions in dogs, including:
- Vomiting
- Prucitus (itching)
- Lethargy
- Depression
- Anorexia
- Atazia
- Seizures
- Hypersalivation
- Diarrhea
- Dermatitis

If your dog vomits within one hour after swallowing Trifexis, it is recommended that you provide a re-dose of the same dosage of this medication to your dog. A re-dose is needed because it could be that the medication is not fully absorbed by your dog’s system yet, and the administration of another dose is a must in order to get the full effect of Trifexis in killing fleas. And though the adverse effects are actually mild in nature, you should consult with your dog’s vet as soon as your canine friend shows signs of negativity after the administration of the chewable tablet.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Trifexis is the perfect medication to kill fleas in your dog, but you need to understand that this chewable tablet is not intended and will not kill or even repel ticks. It is produced to eliminate the infestation and prevent the re-infestations of fleas in your dog. Trifexis cannot kill tapeworms, but it can only kill adult roundworm, adult hookworm, and adult whipworm infections in puppies that are 8 weeks old and beyond and weighs 5 pounds or more. Always read the label and the instruction incorporated in the Trifexis package, and be sure to consult your dog’s vet if any adverse effect happens to your pooch.
ADDITIONAL FLEA PREVENTION
Aside from giving Trifexis to your dog, you can also ensure that no flea will come in contact with your canine companion by scheduling a regular appointment with your dog’s vet, and making sure that your pet completed the dog vaccinations. It is also important to process spraying or neutering in your home and yard to prevent infestations of fleas. Also, it is important to get your dog house trained, and practice proper dental care. Your dog’s diet and exercise also plays huge parts in the prevention of fleas in dogs.
