Best Wet Mop for Dog Owners

Find the Best Commercial All-Purpose Cleaners for Dog Parents for Your Large Dog

Mopping is a household chore not many people like to do, but it’s necessary for someone to do it, especially if you have a dog. Having the right equipment can make mopping easier, look better and potentially even make you want to do it more often. A nice and shiny floor is more pleasant to walk on and it doesn’t have to be hard to accomplish.

A good wet mop can be defined differently by various people. Some prefer to base their decision on how long and ergonomic the handle is. Others may only be concerned with the size of the mop itself so they can get the job done quicker. During our testing, we took these characteristics and many more into consideration to narrow down our selections of the best wet mops to help you make the right decision for you.

We have more than 35 years of experience testing, evaluating and analyzing different cleaning products, including wet mops. After concluding our research, we’ve given the O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop Bucket Floor Cleaning System our Top Pick, the Swiffer Sweeper Dry and Wet Floor Mop our Honorable Mention Pick and the LINKYO Microfiber Hardwood Floor Mop our Green Pick.

DogGear Philosophy

The shining star of this review is the iDog launcher. This unit has five different distance settings, as opposed to three on the other systems. It’s well priced, and the balls are easily interchangeable with standard tennis balls. The DogGear team members love the remote control and the fact that it comes standard with rechargeable batteries.

TESTING CATEGORIES

When reading our recommendations, it’s important for you to know how we came to our conclusions. We test on several different categories to make sure we identify all strengths and weaknesses in any given product. Each category below was factored in to our overall score for each mop.

Quality: With wet mops, sometimes you can just feel them with your fingers and tell it’s made from a low quality material. Then when it gets wet, you may only get a handful of uses out of it before it starts fraying or losing its effectiveness. A good quality wet mop will be strong enough to clean up tough dirt and grime left by your dog and is easy to rinse out afterward. We were very high on quality as a category when evaluating different mops.

Durability: The end of the mop itself can be durable in different ways, but we were mostly focused on the durability of the handle for this category. When you have to reach under tables, behind couches and far into corners where your dog naps, you sometimes have to apply a significant amount of force to reach everything. The handle needs to be strong enough so it won’t break while performing these actions. Durability is another big factor in our scoring system.

Usage: If a wet mop isn’t easy to use, chances are it won’t be used much at all. Mops that came with a wringing system received a higher score in this category, since you don’t have to waste time taking it outside or to the sink to rinse it out. Having a rotating head and the ability to extend the handle for ease of use are also important when buying a mop, and we took those features into consideration as well.

Tips for Effective Mopping

Finding a mop you are comfortable working with is half the battle of getting your floor mopped. Sometimes the most important features are the ones that allow you to do the work comfortably without causing any discomfort throughout the process. Using the adjustability features found on certain mops can make your experience much better.

Be sure to also take into consideration the size of the areas you’ll be mopping in your home. If you have a very large room, then the size of the mop head itself should be larger so you can minimize the amount of time mopping. Getting a mop with a mop bucket and wringing system will also save you a lot of time and headaches.

A Note About Safety and Storage

With most wet mops, you can safely store them in your laundry room, garage, shop or any other enclosed area you have in your home. Just be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight and the reach of your dog so the handle doesn’t deteriorate and the mop head doesn’t get damaged.

When you’re mopping, be sure to keep your dog safely away until the floor dries. Hard floors can become slippery quickly even with a minimal amount of moisture, so that’s the biggest safety tip to consider when using a wet mop.
